This drawing was inspired by a photo I took on vacation in Spain back in 2006. It features the lined up archways through the Mezquita del Cristo de la Luz, a tiny mosque built in the year 999 in Toledo and later converted to a Christian chapel during the Reconquista, hence the unusual name “Mosque of Christ of the Light.” I knew the instant that I saw it that I would have to draw it someday. This was my first attempt at using white charcoal on toned paper.
